The mathematics curriculum revisits key Stage 2 concepts and gradually introduces foundational Stage 3 topics (like basic algebra), ensuring students become confident with calculations and mathematical reasoning in English. A major focus is on teaching the English terminology for math concepts alongside Chinese, so pupils can follow Year 7 lessons and word problems. By the end of Year 6, students should be fluent in written methods for the four operations and working with fractions/decimals; this programme reinforces those skills and addresses any gaps. Each lesson is mapped to UK National Curriculum objectives (number sense, calculation, geometry, etc.) and emphasises problem-solving in context. With the small- group buddy system, students practice explaining their reasoning in both languages, which builds the understanding needed for more complex KS3 maths.
